  • Tate St Ives won the 2018 Art Fund Museum of the Year

Art Fund director and Chair of the Judges Stephen Deuchar described the new extention to the museum as 'Deeply inteligent and breathtakingly beautiful'...

  •  Having its toes in the gushing waters of the river Calder, Wakefield's Art Gallery is a superb choice for a cultural day out.   It was also  a well deserved WINNER of the Art Fund Museum of the Year last year,  2017..

An art fund card will earn a good discount for purchases here,  and there are some other treats not too far away also!

  • We are delighted that,  following last years  December  Flood,  our favourite North London Gallery, James Freeman are open and once more thrilling us with some outrageously imaginative works.

From 8th to 28th March 2018,  another show not to miss from James Freeman was  'Makers of Marks'

Drawing and printmaking have much shared history and enjoy a deeply interwoven relationship, but even so, contemporary artists still find new ways of making them play off each other. In 'Makers of Marks' the gallery present three artists who experiment with this relationship against a background of classical references: Daniel Hosego, Sam Branton and Jon Braley.

Guest beds have traditionally been tucked out of sight and out of mind, but the tides of change are coming and SS17 can be seen as the catalyst season for exactly this. Producer of innovative sleep solutions, Hyder Living, is at the forefront of such a movement, introducing the Maya and Emily product lines to prove that guest beds can play an active part in interior design.

The Maya and the Emily are crafted using only the highest quality woods and fabrics, but talents extend well beyond being a ‘handy’ addition to our residences. Instead, these guest beds hold beautiful angles and curves that fall in all the right places, demonstrating Hyder Living’s commitment to not only practicalities, but also aesthetic forms.

Work the Maya or the Emily into your newest schemes, with pops of colour that suit your stylistic tastes. The Maya and the Emily are neutral by nature, so the decision to be bold or understated lies with you and your selection of cushions, pillows and throws. To be brave with gloss or metallics, or to take a subtle turn using delicate, pastel shades? Such choices can make or break a room, so an element of ‘trial and error’ may be required.

One thing, however, is for certain as we move through SS17: Hyder Living’s Maya and Emily have elevated the guest bed concept to new heights, and are wholly deserving of their ‘permanent fixture’ status in the home.

Maya and Emily guest beds are priced from £495. For stockists, 01484 531000 or visit hyderint.com

The Emily

Just incase you are extra fond of your guest ....  then look no further to impress them than with these tasteful pillows from Midsummer Milano.

The well-known MIDSUMMER Italian brand offering bedding solutions, counts among its collection,  pillows designed by the French illustrator Jean-Luc Guérin known for his unique trait inspired by the ancient art of tattooing.

Midsummer’s pillows are lovely universal objects, completing a refined bed or an elegant sofa, that decorate the spaces with grace and cherished simplicity.

Large flowers and imaginary animals, conceived by the well-known French illustrator Jean-Luc Guérin, are proposed as original decorations inlaid on a precious silk textile. According to Midsummer’s philosophy, the materials have a key role. The constant research of the best fabrics permits the creation of aesthetically strong products that communicate emotional charge and donate a great comfort.

A complementary object such as these pillows, that are so carefully crafted, decorated and embellished by the consistency of the silk,  overpasses the status of accessory,  creating a natural affection toward it.

These elements are the basis of Midsummer’s ideal home, tasteful and unique, able to recount people living inside it and to touch guests’ emotions. The decorations, the combinations of natural colours following contrasts or the chromatic scale, make these pillows perfect for completing and enriching all the spaces. From the bedroom to the living room, from the dining room to the garden.

If you love contrasts or the fusion of different styles, if you love flowers or wild creatures, the over sixty possible combinations of decorations and colours - natural, or strong and saturated - will let your fantasy run wild.

Midsummer’s pillows collection is inspired by the ancient art of tattooing. The animals, the butterflies and the flowers are designed by the famous French illustrator Jean-Luc Guérin. The preciousness of the materials is combined to the allure of the contemporary design. Produced in pure silk with a decoration on the front, with a side band and a drawstring finish. The padding is in goose feather and down.
